Three Holiday Health Tips for You

Posted on 07. Nov, 2013 by in Wellness

The holidays are a great time to celebrate with family and friends. Many of the holidays you enjoy, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas, involve lots and lots of yummy food. You may be excited to consume every treat in sight, but at the same time, you also may be worried that you may have some weight gain because of it. By following these simple holiday health tips, you can enjoy your holidays without sacrificing your healthy body.

Avoid Overeating

The first holiday health tip is to not overindulge yourself. Those frosted sugar cookies may look delicious, but it does not mean you need to eat twenty of them in one sitting. Try to limit yourself to one or two after dinner. If a certain dessert or menu item does not look appealing to you at the moment, do not just eat it because you do not want to make your Uncle Bob feel bad. It is better to feel a little guilty now than to feel that weight gain later.

Get Some Sleep

Staying up late and catching up with the family may be lots of fun, but do not forget to get some sleep. Losing sleep could increase your appetite and increase the amount of weight you put on. If you do end up having a few late nights over the holidays, make sure you make up for that lack of sleep over the weekend, or by throwing in a few naps here and there.

Do Not Stress

Holidays can be a very stressful time of the year. You want to make sure that your guests are taken care of and that the food and activities turn out well. Stress can bring strain to your body and make you tired and irritable. Try to reduce your stress by planning your meals out ahead of time and giving each of your family members a certain task. This way you are not the only one doing the cooking, and you can relax and enjoy your company as well.

This holiday season, do not let overeating, sleep deprivation, or stress keep you from having a good time and staying healthy. Keep these holiday health tips in mind and you will be set.
