The Top Five Ways to Ensure Dental Health

Studies have shown that if you have poor dental health, then it is likely you may also have poor health in general, as insufficient oral care has been linked to such diseases as cardiovascular disease, dementia, stroke and even cancer. The bacteria found in the mouth can expand and move to other areas of the body if not cleaned regularly. Here are a few ways to ensure you have great dental health:

1. Brush and floss

It may seem obvious, but it really is the most important thing you can do to ensure good oral health. By brushing twice a day and flossing once a day, you will be on your way to a healthy mouth and smile.

2. Eat well

By consuming fresh veggies and fruits, you are providing essential vitamins and minerals that help your body battle bacteria.

3. Stay away from sugar and soda

The bacteria that thrives in the mouth is called streptococcus and it loves sugar. To ensure this bacteria will not breed in your mouth, stay away from sugars and sodas as much as possible. When you do consume something high in sugar content, brush your teeth as soon afterward as you can so the sugar will not stick to your teeth.

4. Exercise

Regular exercise increases bone mass, which can result in strong teeth and overall dental health.  It is just another great reason to work out and stay in shape.

5. Dental visits

Visit the dentist twice a year to ensure the best possible dental health.
