Food Is Not the Enemy, Make Changes to Eat Healthy

Posted on 26. Feb, 2015 by in Wellness

If you have ever made a New Year’s Resolution to eat better, then broke it before the end of January, you may wonder if there is any hope to really improve your diet. You can learn to make better choices with your diet. Instead of trying to change everything all at once, implement one or two small changes every week and work on promoting an overall healthy lifestyle.

  1. Set attainable goals. Instead of just telling yourself that you want to eat healthy, figure out what that means to you.
  2. Eat colorfully with lots of variety. Your mom was right when she told you to eat your vegetables. There are a huge array of flavors and colors in the produce section. Try various methods of cooking like sautéing, grilling, or roasting and use seasoning.
  3. Focus on what you can eat. Limit the things that you know are not as healthy.
  4. Plan your meals so that when you come home after a long day, you have the ingredients you need to prepare something healthy instead of going out or just snacking on whatever is handy.
  5. Keep healthy choices on hand that you enjoy eating. Carrots and celery are healthy choices, but if you do not eat them, they will not help you.
  6. Keep your kitchen clean and clutter-free. When you do not have to clean up to prepare your meals, you will want to spend time in the kitchen preparing dinner.
  7. Before you snack, ask yourself if you are really hungry. You might be thirsty. Maybe you are bored. Take the time to really make sure you need to eat.
  8. Have things on hand that you can prepare quickly and without a lot of fuss.
  9. Make meal time focused. Enjoy dinner with your loved ones instead of in front of the computer.
  10. Give yourself permission to enjoy an occasional splurge. Eating a reasonable serving of your favorite ice cream once in a while is okay and does not add up to an unhealthy lifestyle.
