Five Tips for Juicing

Posted on 22. Oct, 2014 by in Wellness

Adding juicing into your daily habits can offer a quick way to incorporate a power packed snack or meal filled with vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. It is also something that you can carry with you on the go, ensuring that you can take in its entire nutritious goodness. Of course, not all juicing results in the tastiest concoctions when you are starting out. Here are a few tips to get the most from this addition to your lifestyle.

  1. Be prepared. The one thing that can reduce your likelihood of sticking with it is if each juicing session takes forever. Have your chosen produce washed and prepped beforehand so you can just pop them in.
  2. Choose a base. Begin with a vegetable that contains high water content such as celery or cucumbers. These set the base for consistency and can add to the taste.
  3. Leaf it up. Choose your favorite leafy green or an array of leaves to toss into the mix. These juice well while adding in a serious nutrition element. Dark leafy greens can reduce inflammation in the body and have anti-oxidant properties. They help lower cholesterol and are beneficial for fighting heart disease as well as diabetes and chronic pain. Choose leafy greens that you would eat on their own. If you do not like earthy or peppery leaves, stay away from those as they will likely become a large part of the flavor.
  4. Toss in herbs. Herbs can add immensely to the nutritional value as well as the detox properties of your juice. Ginger can not only add flavor, but can work as an anti-inflammatory to your system. Cilantro, thyme, basil and parsley are just a few that can up the health factor.
  5. Juicing | XLHealthBlog.comHeadline with veggies. While you may be tempted to toss in lots of fruit, using veggies will have a greater impact on the nutritional value and help keep sugars to a minimum. Add in more vegetables up front and leave the fruits to the end to help tweak the flavor.

At the beginning, choose produce that you would enjoy eating together in their whole form. After a while, tap into your creativity and find combinations to keep your drinks interesting and full of new flavors.
