With summer just around the corner, now is the perfect time to get into those healthy habits that everyone wants to establish. Warmer temperatures and longer days make it the ideal season to get out and get moving in the great outdoors. While running with your dog or going for a walk with your kids are both excellent outside activities, don’t get into the monotony of just doing one thing all summer. Here are 4 creative ideas to break through your repetitive summer routine and kick-start your metabolism:

  1. Hiking: If you’re blessed to live in an area where hiking is an option, get out and climb those trails! There are often many different varieties of length and terrain to make hiking accessible for everyone, not matter how experienced you might be. Hiking is also a great way to burn extra calories since it is both a cardiovascular and strength-training exercise.
  2. Biking: Hopping on your bicycle and going for a quick ride can easily turn into a fast 10-miler. With the wind in your hair and the sun in your face, biking is an exhilarating activity that quickly boosts your heart-rate while also being highly enjoyable and allowing you to experience nature to its fullest.
  3. Yard Work: While this might not be the first thing people think of as an “activity,” getting outside to do yard work is healthy not only for your body, but for your soul as well. Improving the look of your home gives you a sense of accomplishment and kills two birds with one stone by also getting rid of some of those unwanted calories.
  4. Play Ball!: Many of the quintessential summer activities revolve around sports. From tennis, to volleyball, baseball, soccer, even golf, playing sports with friends and family is an easy, fun and healthy way to get your blood pumping.

With so many options in the summer months to keep you healthy and get your body and mind strong, you are guaranteed to find something that gets you outside and off the couch. Try some of these good-for-you activities today and go get moving!
